Senior Fine Arts students contribute art to Spring Gala auction

On March 7, seniors enrolled in the Fine Arts elective will auction their art work at the Verbum Dei High School Spring Gala at the historic Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.  The auctions will begin at 5:30 P.M. and end around 8:30 P.M.

The Spring Gala is VDHS’s premiere fundraising event, and this is not the first time  that student artists have auctioned their work.

“The auctions have been going on for the past 14 years, since the event first started,” said Michelle Cordova, Mission Advancement Assistant.

Prior to the event, efforts are made to display the artworks attractively.

“We put them in frames, and then we write a little description about what the drawing is, who drew it, and the year the student is graduating,” said Cordova.

This event is a first-time experience for both the Class of 2019 and their Fine Arts teacher Allison Kennedy.

“I’m looking forward to participating in this event as a photographer as well,” said Kennedy.  “I’m excited for the students to have experience of engaging in an event with artwork as well.”

All the seniors that take the art class each have an equal opportunity to have their art work auctioned at the event; however, not every senior will have his art work auctioned.

“Students who have artwork included in the art event will be selected by myself and a panel of other school staff members,” said Kennedy.  “The artwork selected will be on display for purchase.”
