Chapter 8- Karma?

Douglass states, “At this moment, I saw more clearly than ever the brutalizing effects of slavery upon both slave and slave holder.” does doing harm to another harm the wrong doer as well? How are we affected when we choose to mistreat someone else?

    People who willfully and maliciously mistreat others must of necessity sacrifice some parts of who they are. They must leave part of their humanity at the door. Even those who tell themselves lies like slave owners or sex traffickers at some point the claws of conscience will catch up with them.
