Curriculum of Verbum Dei
The fundamental goal of a
Verbum Dei education, and
therefore of our curriculum, is
to provide the students with a
holistic Catholic education. As
“Verbum Dei” means “Word of
God”, whatever is done here is
inspired by and reflects God’s
Word, not only in explicit
Religion courses, but in all
courses, which are an
exploration of God’s presence
and purpose throughout creation
and in the whole range of human
accomplishment.
(Vatican Council II, Gaudium et
Spes, n. 11)
In common with all the Catholic
schools of the Archdiocese of
Los Angeles, Verbum Dei requires
all students to complete
academic courses in Religion,
English, Mathematics, Science,
Language Arts, History and
Social Science, Art, Health,
Physical Education, as well ad
Keyboarding and Computer Usage.
Verbum Dei provides a college
preparatory curriculum. This
means that every student who
fulfills the Verbum Dei
requirements also fulfills the
subject requirements for
admission to the University of
California and the California
State University systems as well
as those of almost every college
and university in the United
States.
