Ignatian Family Teach-In
From November 11-16, 2010, a group of 12 students and 5 faculty/staff went to Washington, DC for a Social Justice Conference put on by the Ignatian Solidarity Network. The group lobbied to Congress for passage of the DREAM Act and Comprehensive Immigration Reform as well as Environmental Justice and closing of WHINSEC (School of the Americas) in Ft. Benning, Georgia. The students and staff participated in community service with We Are Family, a non-profit organization in Washington, DC that provides groceries for underprivileged senior citizens.
While in DC, the Immersion
group toured the White House and
Capitol building as well as
received a private tour of the
Floor of the House of
Representatives. They toured the
monuments on the National Mall
and partook in leisure
activities at night. They also
met up with Verbum Dei alumni,
David Price, Noel Mendoza, and
Carlos Mercado who now attend
Georgetown University, and
received a private tour of the
University from David Price.
